‘This is domestic terrorism’: Coal protestors holding NSW’s rail line to ransom
A climate activist has brought trains to a halt as part of protest action in Newcastle.
The 28-year-old is suspended from ropes attached to the rail line around the port of Newcastle.
Blockade Australia has claimed responsibility for eight train closures in the Hunter Valley including parking a car across train tracks.
Over 14 arrests have been made in the last few days, according to the NSW Police Minister. (See full statement below)

NSW Police Minister David Elliott has told 2GB in a statement:
“I call on these mindless economic terrorists to stop disrupting our exports and endangering lives.
“These protestors could have easily caused a major train derailment over the last week, and have cost coal mining communities millions in lost exports.
“Enough is enough. Protestors will be met with Polair helicopters, officers from the Police Rescue Squad, Traffic and Highway Patrol, and Marine Area Command to say the least.
“Over 14 arrests have been made in the last few days by police. I also urge the Courts to deal with those put before them for unacceptable economic vandalism and illegal acts with more than a mere $200 fine, which is generally what we have seen to date.”
