Swimmers to stay ‘shark smart’ this summer with second-by-second alerts
The NSW government has developed an app to keep swimmers and surfers safer from shark encounters.
The ‘SharkSmart’ app is part of a broader safety strategy including more shark-spotting drones to patrol beaches.
Agriculture Minister Adam Marshall told Jim Wilson the app is linked to the state’s extensive network of listening stations and drones.
“If a shark is detected on a beach where that individual is … it will send them a live notification alerting them … so that they can actually not go into the water, or if they are in the water, get themselves out … quick-smart.”
