Australia has defied expectations and secured the T20 World Cup, placing the team in good stead for the Ashes Test series.

Cricket Australia General Manager of High Performance and National Teams Ben Oliver told Mark Levy and co-host Mark Taylor selectors for the Ashes will meet “in the next day or so” for squad discussions.

“I think they’re very well advanced in terms of the planning for the Ashes.

“What’s been really pleasing is … some of the consistent performances that we’ve seen coming out of the Sheffield Shield, coupled obviously with the World Cup.

“They’ll have some difficult decisions, but what’s really pleasing is that there’s a handful of players that are really putting their hand up strongly for selection.”
