Todd Woodbridge defiant in midst of Nick Kyrgios’ controversial vaccine ‘foot fault’
Tennis star Nick Kyrgios has attracted criticism after suggesting a proposed vaccine mandate for the Australian Open was “morally wrong”, and that the tournament should be cancelled.
Kyrgios has since explained his cancellation comment was intended to suggest it was unfair for Melburnians to have unvaccinated international athletes living amongst them.
Former champion Todd Woodbridge told Mark Levy Melburnians are in fact eager to get back to normal life, including by showcasing the best of the country’s sport on the world stage.
“It was a foot fault, he’s misread the room.
“It’s a shame, but I can promise you that the Open is up and it is running and it will be happening.
“The Australian Open … is the vehicle that funds tennis in Australia.”
