Police say the renewed search for answers on what happened to William Tyrrell will go on for months if required.

The operation on the Mid North Coast has now entered day 11, hampered heavily by wet weather.

State Crime Commander Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith told Ben Fordham he has faith in the team involved and experts who have been brought in to help.

“We continue to work with consultant experts – an archaeologist, a forensic anthropologist and a hydrologist – to get us to a position to satisfy ourselves … that anything we find there is relevant to this inquiry.

“Anything found in those areas then is processed through Newcastle, and then it comes to Sydney to a criminalistics division at the Forensic and Analytical Science Service.

“They are working around the clock.”
