‘Kangaroo court’: Minister doubles down on Prime Minister’s ICAC sledge
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has described NSW’s Independent Commission Against Corruption as “a kangaroo court” over its treatment of former NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian.
Labor MP Joel Fitzgibbon has previously branded ICAC with the same label, but told Deborah Knight the Prime Minister’s comment was “extraordinary” and would constitute sub judice of a regular court.
“I did use that line, but I’m a retiring backbencher reflecting more broadly on the architecture of the ICAC.
“Scott Morrison is the Prime Minister, attacking ICAC on one particular … incomplete hearing.
“I almost fell off my seat when he did so.”
Energy Minister Angus Taylor doubled down on Mr Morrison’s language, but denied the Prime Minister’s words referred specifically to the Berejiklian inquiry.
“We’ve lost three premiers now, and tell me what it is that each one of them did wrong that deserved that outcome!”
