Deborah Knight resolute in opposition to Steve Smith’s vice-captaincy
Deborah Knight has declared Cricket Australia’s elevation of Steve Smith to the vice-captaincy shows a lack of commitment to cultural change.
Smith, who played a role in the 2018 Sandpapergate cheating scandal, has officially been declared deputy to new Test captain Pat Cummins – a move opposed by cricket legend Shane Warne among others.
“I still believe that appointing Steve Smith … is a mistake,” Deborah said.
“If Cricket Australia wants to move on from Sandpapergate and Tim Paine’s sexting scandal, if they really want cultural change … if it’s action and not just words, then they shouldn’t have put Steve Smith in a leadership role.”
