Voters urged to ‘do their research’: Around the grounds on council election eve
Tomorrow (December 4) NSW ratepayers will have the opportunity to have their voices heard in their local government elections.
Local Government Minister Shelley Hancock has answered voters’ questions about what a mid-pandemic election looks like, and explained why some are electing mayors while the majority won’t.
“This is democracy at its finest, and local government is really important.
“It’s the most important part of our system in New South Wales.”

North Sydney independent Councillor MaryAnn Beregi is campaigning on the issue of renovations to North Sydney pool, which have experienced budget and deadline blowouts.
“Council projects [are] spiralling out of control.
“Voters need to do their research Jim … I’m here to do the best for the ratepayer dollar.”

Inner West independent Councillor Victor Macri’s “big issue” is the amalgamation.
“I asked the Minister Shelley Hancock, if we get a positive poll result to say we want to be merged, let my people go!”
He’s also encouraging voters to “do a little bit of research” on independent candidates to hold the parties accountable.
