Mark Taylor’s glowing appraisal of Pat Cummins after ‘beautiful’ captaincy debut
New Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins has received a glowing appraisal after taking the team to a 9-wicket win in the first Ashes Test.
Former captain Mark ‘Tubby’ Taylor told Bill Woods Cummins has demonstrated a great relationship with senior players, and “that’s what a bowling skipper is going to need”.
“I’ve been trying over the last few days think of a negative for Pat Cummins after that Test match, and I cannot think of one.
“He even threw the coin up well, and put the pressure on Joe Root!”
Bill Woods: “I wonder how he sings ‘beneath the Southern Cross I stand’.”
Mark Taylor: “Maybe that’s his weakness.”
