Labor leader returns fire at ‘obviously ridiculous’ Greens MP over racism claim
State Labor have found themselves in a racism row with the Greens over local manufacturing.
Amid Labor’s campaign to have transport infrastructure made here, Greens MP for Newtown Jenny Leong accused the shadow transport minister of “stok[ing] the flames of Aussie nationalism” and ostracising those whose “families and cultural heritage were ‘built’ overseas”.
Opposition leader Chris Minns told Joe Hildebrand the Greens MP is “jumping the shark” with her claim.
“[It’s] obviously ridiculous, Joe.
“Wanting domestic manufacturing in NSW and Australia is not racist at all.
“I don’t think you can be racist to a bus or a tram or a train.”
