Specialist police in charge of catching paedophiles online say everyone has a role to play in keeping children safe.

Strike Force Trawler has been operating for 15 years and has a 100 per cent conviction rate.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Goddard told Mark Levy parents should be encourage their children to be open with them if something happens online.

“Any app or any online games or any social media platform that allows users to be in contact with another person can put kids at risk,” he said.

“We see kids approached online who have got social media accounts who are potentially, six, eight, 10 years old.

“It’s about talking to your children regularly about their online activities and making sure you can have those comfortable conversations if something does go wrong.”
