Sydney to Hobart: Line honours go to Black Jack in ‘walking pace’ finish
Black Jack has emerged victorious in this year’s Sydney to Hobart yacht race, claiming line honours amid tough conditions at sea.
The super maxi arrived at Constitution Dock in the early hours of this morning and crossed the finish line with a time of 2 days, 12 hours, 37 minutes and 17 seconds.
Sydney to Hobart correspondent Steve Barker told John Stanley it was a tense final leg for the crew.
“They really did put in a good fight because all three super maxis were really so close to one another yesterday, going down Tasmania’s scenic east coast,” he said.
“But for Black Jack, a boat better suited to light air, and it was very light wind right to the very end.
“At the end, it was two knots of wind … and they were going at walking pace, really, to get over the line.”
