The moment Australian of the Year Dylan Alcott rings Ben Fordham live on air
Tennis star, Paralympic gold medallist and advocate Dylan Alcott has made history after being named 2022 Australian of the Year.
He is the first person with a disability to claim the award in its 62-year history.
Mr Alcott is revered for his efforts on and off the court, and is a powerful advocate for Australians living with a disability.
The tennis golden grand slam winner says he thought he had “no chance” at winning the honour, and he feels like “luckiest guy in this country”.
Dylan told Ben Fordham the Australian public played a huge part in his success.
“This is a team effort mate, this isn’t ‘me’, this is ‘we’.
“I’m just going to keep being me.
“I’m excited to be able to amplify the voices of other people with a disability.”
