Regional farms providing work opportunities
The Australian Government has partnered with the National Farmers Federation to develop a 12-month gap year program that matches young Australians with an on-farm paid job.
The program aims to address barriers and attitudes of work in Australian agriculture and the regions.
Michelle Lawrence a Dairy Farmer from Tasmania has told Jim Wilson, “A lot of people have missed being outdoors in the last two years”.
“They’re not aware of how fulfilling and rewarding that a career in dairy could be.”
“There are way more people involved in agriculture across the whole the country than we realised.”
The first on-farm placements will commence in March 2022.
