Omicron spike sees postal voting introduced for the first time ever
Voters will have the option for the first time ever to cast their ballot via the post for the February 12 by-elections, due to the number of Omicron cases.
NSW Electoral Commissioner John Schmidt has told Ray Hadley voters still have a choice when voting stating, “The choice is theirs”.
With previous technological problems on the state’s iVote system, Mr Schmidt campaigned to allow all voters to be sent a postal voting pack.
“The face of elections in Australia has changed dramatically over the last few years.”
” I expect our use of postal votes here to be very closely watched by other jurisdictions.”
