‘We’re paying off their mortgages!’: Ben Fordham blasts ‘sickening’ Canberra rort
Ben Fordham has called out MPs using taxpayers’ money to pay off their existing mortgages.
Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese charged taxpayers $17,000, during last year’s Delta lockdown, to stay in his own Canberra payment during 59 days on the road.
Members of Parliament can spend $291 a night while on the road, even if they’re living in a home they own.
“A sickening waste of money,” Ben said.
“We’ve had a million people in NSW out of work during this pandemic and MPs are having taxpayers pay off their mortgage.”
Liberal MP Tim Wilson purchased a $369,000 Canberra apartment in 2017 but in the five years since he’s claimed $138,700 living in the apartment he owns.
