Calls to change the face of pugs and french bulldogs in Australia
The Australian Veterinary Association is calling for new breeding standards for flat-faced dogs such as pugs and french bulldogs.
They argue changes are needed to encourage traits that make the animals healthier.
RSPCA NSW Chief Veterinarian Liz Arnott told Ben Fordham their breathing difficulties present a fatal risk.
They want breeders to follow new standards to improve the health of the dogs.
“We just have to have a focus on health over aesthetics.”
