Barcaldine mayor relieved over dismissal of OIA complain
Luke Grant speaks to Sean Dillon, Mayor of Barcaldine Queensland, who was facing an investigation from a state government body called “Office of the Independent Assessor” because of public comments he made.
News broke last October that Cr Dillon was being investigated by the OIA for alleged potential misconduct, which stemmed from questions and comments he made when being presented with the Central West Hospital and Health Service vaccine roll-out plan by the council’s deputy CEO, who had been briefed by Queensland Health officials.
He saw flaws in the roll-out, especially around those with mobility issues and the elderly – he’d know, he lives there, but in local government in Queensland, it appears you have to tow the line.
Yesterday Sean Dillon got the news that the OIA dismissed the complaint against him but he says the wider implications for mayors standing up for their communities has not been resolved.
