Ben Fordham has slammed Origin Energy’s decision to shut Australia’s largest coal-fired power plant seven years early.

The Eraring facility in the NSW Hunter region is now set to close by August 2025.

“A terrible decision for this state,” Ben said.

NSW Energy Minister Matt Kean said Origin’s decision was months in the making, with plans to build the largest battery in the Southern Hemisphere.

“The only people who benefit from this are Origin Energy,” Ben told his Breakfast listeners.

“We’ll be paying more, they’ll increase their profits.”
