Australian actress Leah Purcell has revealed the story of ‘The Drover’s Wife’ has been with her for nearly 47 years.

Writing, directing, and starring in the Henry Lawson remake of ‘The Drover’s Wife: The Legend of Molly Johnson’, the actress described the roots of the story and how it connects with her.

Lawson’s short stories focused on outback courage and Leah Purcell told Deborah Knight she saw herself connecting with those values.

“As a 5-year-old I saw myself in that story, I used my imagination,” she said.

“There was no father figure in our family … so it was just me and my mum, I was her protector.”
