The Western Australian government has shown great interest in possibly merging with the North Sydney Bears in a bid to be the NRL’s 18th team.

The Bears have been out of the NRL since 1998.

North Sydney Bears Chairman Daniel Dickson told Mark Levy and Billy Slater they have been in the position to return for a long time.

“We think we have a real good offering for the community of Rugby League.”
