The first whales have been spotted along the east coast as part of their annual migration.

From May to November every year, more than 30,000 whales travel up and down the NSW coast, dubbed ‘The Humpback Highway’.

Antarctic Science Foundation CEO Andrew Kelly told Deborah Knight the moratorium on whaling has seen their numbers rise.

“And that’s why we’re seeing them and why we can enjoy them on the coastlines.”
