Aussie researchers search for cure for dementia in children
Australian researchers are working to find a cure for dementia in children.
Batten disease is one of the most common forms of childhood dementia with a range of symptoms such as a loss of the ability to walk and talk.
QIMR Berghofer Associate Professor Anthony White and his team are trying to find drugs that can halt or slow the progression of the neurological disorder.
He told Deborah Knight they are investigating drugs that already exist.
“If we can find drugs that will target these particular pathways … then we may be able to find something that can not only treat one disease but treat lots of children with dementia.”
