Australia’s Energy Market Operator is warning of electricity shortfalls in New South Wales and Queensland again this evening.

The regulator was forced to use emergency powers to direct generators to pump more into the network to avoid blackouts.

The federal government is confident there is enough power supply to avoid blackouts for the time being but Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said today, that almost a decade of neglect from the previous government has put the country in this position.

Energy and Climate Change Program Director at the Grattan Institute Tony Wood told Jim Wilson, he doesn’t see the energy crisis smoothing over any time soon.

“Things aren’t settling down and not for a while.”
