Deputy Premier acting fast to enact tough new organised crime laws
NSW Deputy Premier and Police Minister Paul Toole has joined Ray Hadley this morning to discuss his plan to move a tough new crime bill through Parliament.
The laws will grant police new powers to search for assets and to charge criminals for using encrypted devices.
“Police came to me and said we need these powers to deal with the worst of the worst,” Mr Toole said.
“We’re talking about encrypted devices that are being used to smuggle firearms and drugs … for money laundering and in some cases are being used to plan murders.”
The bill has gained Labor support and Mr Toole plans to move the laws through the house as soon as Parliament resumes.
“We’re going to move as quickly as we can Ray … and I would expect then, both sides of politics to support it so that our police can have the measures to deal with these criminals. ”
