The NSW government have announced a plan that aims to dish out big fines for illegal strike action. 

The proposal will slap defiant unions with a $55,000 fine for the first day of industrial action and a $27,500 fine for each subsequent day of strikes.

With nurses and teachers both planning action for next week, NSW Employee Relations Minister Damien Tudehope joined Jim Wilson to explain the aim of the new penalties.

“What this is designed to do is to say to the unions … you’ve got to abide by the orders of a tribunal or a court,

“It is an attack on those union officials who flagrantly disobey the law.”

The Minister also explained the government’s efforts to sit with unions to form a resolution.
