Mother of murdered teen feels ‘hopeless’ after killer granted parole
The teen who stabbed Tania Burgess to death has been granted parole nearly 17 years after her murder.
15-year-old Tania Burgess was brutally stabbed 48 times in 2005 while walking home from school on the Central Coast.
Known only as ‘DL’ for legal reasons, the killer was sentenced on appeal to a maximum sentence of 18 years.
The killer, who is now 32, has been granted parole.
The NSW State Parole Authority will provide intensive supervision of the convicted murderer, as well as including around-the-clock electronic monitoring.
Tania’s mother Mandy Burgess told Ben Fordham the decision is heartbreaking.
“We don’t get a second chance at getting Tania back,” she said.
“It’s so hopeless.”
