Barilaro ‘very likely’ to front inquiry into controversial trade appointment
The NSW Premier’s Office has appointed an independent expert to conduct an inquiry into the appointment of John Barilaro to a plum US trade position.
Sydney Morning Herald reporter Lucy Cormack has told Luke Grant on Drive that the Former Deputy Premier is “very likely” to front the inquiry.
“I think they are very prepared … they’re getting a lot of evidence, there’s a lot of documents still coming through … it’s going to be a long journey through this,” she said.
“It’s very likely that John Barilaro could be called to it and he could be subpoenaed as a private citizen.”
This comes after it was revealed that Department of Premier and Cabinet Secretary Michael Coutts-Trotter had received a 45 page document from Jenny West, the senior public servant to whom the job was offered and later rescinded.
