Private health cover drama sees family pleading for help
A mother is pleading with private health insurers to implement a change, allowing young people with a disability to remain under their parent’s private health cover.
Julie Camilleri’s son has a permanent disability and was covered under the family health fund until the age of 25.
Former Health Minister Greg Hunt introduced a law to parliament where people with disabilities were allowed to stay on their family health cover.
The bill was not mandated, and now Julie’s son is paying extra each month to maintain his own cover.
CEO of Private Healthcare Australia Rachel David told Chris Smith “the system is complex” but the issues “should be” sorted by December.
