Private documents have today been leaked in another murky twist to the John Barilaro trade job saga. 

It has been revealed that senior public servant Jenny West who got the job initially was later backgrounded and had her work ethic questioned before John Barilaro replaced her.

NSW Shadow Treasurer Daniel Mookhey told Luke Grant that the leak was “disappointing” and was a part of what he believes to be an effort to smear Ms West.

“It looks like it’s the latest action in what some are running as a smear campaign against the person who actually was originally selected for the job,” he said.

Documents also revealed that star executive Kimberly Cole was referred to as the “preferred candidate” in internal emails before Barilaro was given the position.

Mr Mookhey said the inquiry will be looking into who made the leak and their motivations.
