Farmer devastated as floods decimate third-generation persimmon farm
A NSW man has been left devastated after floods ravaged his family’s farm.
Cobbitty Persimmon farmer Brett Guthery ‘s persimmon trees, which have been growing on the property for more than 25 years, were completely destroyed in the flood event.
The process of growing the trees from the ground up to bear fruit takes roughly 8 years.
Mr Guthery told Mark Levy it’s a long period to grow and crop the tress and to have them wiped out by the floods is “devastating”.
He said while flood payments are helpful, it won’t go far in replacing the destroyed crops, which will have a “knock-on effect” for local fruit supply.
