New inquiry evidence has seen Jenny West reveal she was told the Americas job would be a “present for someone”.

An inquiry has been told former premier Gladys Berejiklian signed off on the appointment of a senior public servant to an overseas job, which was later given to former deputy premier John Barilaro.

Jenny West has revealed her boss, Amy Brown, later told her the job offer would be withdrawn to become a “present” for someone else.

She was told funding for her existing senior role with Investment New South Wales would be reallocated and was later terminated.

NSW Shadow Treasurer and leader of the upper-house inquiry Daniel Mookhey joined Jim Wilson on Drive to give his thoughts on how the Perrottet Government should be held accountable.

“We have to see some leadership from the Premier here,” he said.

Later today the Minister for Enterprise, Investment and Trade Stuart Ayres made a statement that “categorically rejects” he had any influence over the recruitment process.

The statement also rebuked Ms West’s testimony, stating “I did not say the job was to be a ‘present’ for anyone and I find that idea to be offensive.”
