Labor MP Penny Sharpe believes the John Barilaro job appointment inquiry shows how the NSW Government is “rotten to the core”.

Former preferred trade role candidate Jenny West revealed explosive evidence yesterday at the inquiry.

Ms West stated that Chief Executive of Investment Amy Brown, told her the job offer would be withdrawn to become a “present” for someone else.

Former Premier Gladys Berejiklian signed off on the appointment of a senior public servant to an overseas job, which was later given to former deputy premier John Barilaro.

Adding on, NSW Trade Minister Stuart Ayres received the approval of cabinet to maintain overseas trade commissioners as public service appointments, in a bid to keep the roles at arm’s length from politicians.

Ms Sharpe is part of the inquiry into the job appointment and told Chris Smith, that Stuart Ayres’ role also needs to be questioned.

“His role throughout this entire process has been extremely murky,” she said.

“He’s been very close to the discussions that he and Amy Brown had in setting up the new process for the appointment.

“Stuart Ayres simply can’t say that it had nothing to do with him.”
