Former Defence Official at the Pentagon Bridge Colby says there has not been “enough focus” on the Western Pacific.

The United States are turning up the heat in the Pacific as they’ve just launched their biggest push in the region since World War 2.

The goal in mind is to resist Beijing’s increasingly assertive agenda.

The US is returning the Peace Corps to the region establishing new embassies and spending $900 million on economic development.

Mr Colby told Chris Smith it’s almost “too little too late”.

“I think we as a system across administrations have dropped the ball by focusing too much on the Middle East and now Europe.

“The focus needs to be on the Western Pacific and Pacific… that is the crucial theatre.”
