Concerns grow over E-scooter trials in Sydney

Article image for Concerns grow over E-scooter trials in Sydney

The City of Sydney has recently rejected a trial of E-scooters, causing questions to be raised over their safety and utility.

CEO of the Pedestrian Council of Australia Harold Scruby joined Jim Wilson on Drive to explain the history of E-scooter trials and why he believes they are unsafe.

According to Mr Scruby, The Pedestrian Council was involved in a long consultation process with the former Transport Minister Andrew Constance and other stakeholders, which resulted in plans for an E-scooter trial being binned.

“There have been at least five deaths in Australia on them now,” he said.

“Places like Darwin are completely out of control.

“When is somebody going to sit back and say ‘what are the benefits?’,” he said.
