The boss of Racing New South Wales claims racing is being undermined by the state government, which has penciled in two major events on the same day.

The government is close to inking a $10 million deal for the Bruno Mars concert at the new Sydney Football Stadium but one of the performances is on the same day as “The Everest” horse race.

Racing New South Wales Chief Executive Peter V’Landys is labelling the move as “stupid”, suggesting the concert performances be moved to the Thursday and Friday nights.

But Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres has hit back saying: “Global cities can do multiple things at once. New York wouldn’t cancel the Yankees because Billy Joel was playing at Madison Square Garden.”

Peter V’Landys told Ben Fordham the move is dividing Sydney where to go.

“We developed it ourselves … why would you undermine us?! I’m just in disbelief.

“You would never see the Victorian Government put a pop concert on the same day as the AFL Grand Final.”

Ray Hadley has weighed in on the decision to combine two major events on the same day at the Sydney Football Stadium.

Ray believes the traffic and public transport will be crowded on the day and will make it a “living nightmare” for fans.

“Can you imagine trying to get 80,000 people into two venues on one day?” Ray said.

Racing New South Wales Chief Executive Peter V’Landys has expressed his concern about the combination of the two events but Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres didn’t seem fazed about the decision.

Ray isn’t impressed.

“You may cling to the idea that you’ll still be Tourism Minister after March of 2023 but the way things are lining up old mate, you’ll be sitting on the sidelines.”
