Pauline Hanson has stormed out of the Senate this morning in protest of the Acknowledgement of Country.

Ms Hanson disrupted Senate President Sue Lines in the middle of the Acknowledgement, yelling “no I won’t” and “I never will”.

The Acknowledgement of Country is given at the beginning of each sitting day to pay respect to the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples, who are the traditional custodians of the Canberra area, and elders, past and present.

The One Nation leader’s actions were swiftly condemned by her colleagues, with Greens senator Lidia Thorpe labelling the move “disrespectful”.

Ray Hadley said on this point, he disagrees with Ms Hanson’s actions.

“What I want to do is get on with life and acknowledge the Indigenous people have been here for tens of thousands of years,” he said.

“And if a Welcome to Country makes them feel better about it, well, I don’t have a problem with it. Obviously, she does.”
