Shadow Treasurer criticises Premier for ‘passing’ Barilaro job as ‘errors’
The Shadow Treasurer believes Dominic Perrottet today has passed off a “bureaucratic bungle that everybody can see as a political scandal”.
The Premier said today that a report finds John Barilaro didn’t do anything wrong when applying for the New York Trade Commissioner’s job.
An independent review has found the recruitment process was flawed and there weren’t clear guidelines separating Ministers from the recruitment process.
It recommends changes to make clear Ministers can not direct department secretaries.
Dominic Perrottet says the code of conduct will also be changed to prevent former ministers taking on public service jobs related to their portfolios for 18 months.
NSW Daniel Mookhey told Clinton Maynard, filling in for Jim Wilson, it’s “disappointing” the Premier has not set up any process that would examine the last acts of John Barilaro.
“I know the Premier is very eager to pass this entire affair off as errors made by bureaucrats when the actual question is whether or not there were scandalous behaviors by ministers.”
