Bega Cheese farmer fighting red tape to build a dam on his property
A Bega Cheese farmer is fighting to be able to build a dam on his property.
Toad Heffernan produces more than three million litres of milk every year.
He is part of a group of farmers in the Bega Valley that want to increase the number of dams on their properties to ensure they have enough water during drought.
They’ve previously been offered rebates to build dams, but now the Department of Primary Industries won’t allow it.
Mr Heffernan told Ben Fordham that water storage is crucial.
“The way we’re going – the next drought is going to be huge.”
