An Aussie writer and director is shining a light on teaching children to love and appreciate their bodies.

Taryn Brumfitt is the founder of the Body Image Movement and director of the new documentary film Embrace: Kids.

The film will cover topics including social media, photoshopping, the influence of media and advertising on body image and role models.

After a lifetime of obsessing about her body, Ms Brumfitt decided to love it and herself, and through her work, she discovered some alarming and confronting statistics.

Roughly around 60 per cent of children aged five to eleven years want to change something about their body.

The writer told Deborah Knight the influence of social media today has a heavy influence on how kids look at their bodies.

“We know that as little as seven minutes of scrolling on Instagram can cause dissatisfaction and depression.”
