The Mayor of the Inner West is calling on the Premier to save the State Emergency Service that has been left “homeless” as the result of a government project.

The SES building in the inner west is sinking – the plumbing is broken, electrical wires damaged, rainwater leaking from the roof – forcing workers to abandon the building last year.

It’s believed the issue is linked to the construction of the WestConnex tunnel.

Inner West Council Mayor Darcy Byrne has written to the Premier, urging the government to repair the building or build a new headquarters for the SES. (Full letter below)

Mr Byrne told Ben Fordham the treatment of the emergency service is “beyond the pale”.

“They do incredible work protecting our community … so it is shocking that they now need protection themselves from a state government infrastructure project.”
