Children ‘may miss out for good’ as swim teacher shortage bites
A shortage of swimming instructors is hitting operators across the country.
The lack of instructors has worsened since the COVID shutdown.
Australian Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association CEO Brendon Ward told Deborah Knight there are huge wait lists.
“Last summer there was a 30 per cent increase in drownings from the previous year, and we’re just so concerned about this whole group of kids that may have missed out through covid and may miss out for good if we can’t get those swim teachers back in the water.”
