Minister implores Optus to ‘get a move on’ as customers struggle to replace licences
Victor Dominello is calling on Optus to provide customers with proof in order for them to obtain new licences.
The hacker behind the Optus data breach released the private information of 10,000 customers, including licence numbers.
Customers are trying to change their driver’s licence numbers but have been knocked back because the numbers are designed to stay with the driver for life and most states and territories usually only change the number when there is a high risk of fraud.
Drivers have been told to get police reports as well as other forms of documentation.
The Minister for Customer Service told Ray Hadley there is no need for police reports and extra information.
“Optus needs to say to those customers … ‘you need to have your licence replaced, it’s as simple as that,” he said.
“This should have been organised days ago.”
Mr Dominello is expecting Optus to make an announcement tomorrow regarding the updating of customers’ licences and passport numbers.
