Getting kids to seek help about their mental health

Bill Woods

Bill Woods speaks with Lee Knight, Board Director and Chair of the Clinical Governance and Operations Committee for the Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation, about new research that uncovers the importance of empowering young Australians impacted by mental illness with the tools and support they need to connect with others.

The new white paper commissioned by Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation reveals young people affected by mental health concerns are more likely to open up to their families about their mental health after attending peer-connected programs.

The white paper also reveals an increase in mental health knowledge after attending the programs and camps and that a shared group identity is particularly helpful for young people overcoming the stigma to seeking help.
