‘Makes no sense’: Pledge to reduce methane emissions attacked
Australia is expected to sign up to a pledge to reduce methane emissions by 30 per cent over the decade.
The move is in contrast to the former Coalition government, which refused to sign up to the target.
Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic told Deborah Knight numerous countries around the world are taking steps to bring down emissions.
“This will make a difference. Methane is a very potent gas and it needs to be reduced.”
Shadow treasurer Angus Taylor says details are scarce on the policy, and what he has seen so far doesn’t make any sense.
“We have seen the consequences of this tax in New Zealand and also Europe.
“This will be another tax on the next time you order a T-Bone steak.”
