Aussie lawn fanatics out in force across social media

Bill Woods

Bill Woods is joined by Michael Maartensz, Turf Expert & Owner of Positively Green, to talk about lawn care addiction… which he says is not a new phenomenon.

“Traditionally regarded as men’s work, lawn care has progressed into an object of pride and presentation for the whole family”, says Mr Maartensz.

“It goes without saying that this sense of hard work and status triggers many blokes’ competitive nature, but it also brings a lot of benefits, like connecting with the outdoors and community, understanding your environment, and taking pride in your surroundings.”

“Where before you only had your fellow neighbour’s lawn to compete with, now social media has given us a platform to a wider audience, with more feedback, support, and information from other lawn fanatics online.”

“Facebook groups like Australian Lawn Fanatics have tens of thousands of members across the country showing off their pride and joy.”

“Tik Tok too is awash with #lawntiktok #lawntok videos, some with tens of millions of views.”
