Chris Dawson sentenced to 24 years jail
Chris Dawson has been jailed for at least 18 years for the murder of his wife Lynette in 1982.
He will serve a maximum of 24 years behind bars, with a judge acknowledging there is a strong prospect he will die in jail.
The former rugby league player and teacher has been behind bars since he was found guilty in August.
His lawyers say the 74-year-old’s health has deteriorated and he constantly receives death threats.

Outside court, Lynette’s family asked that she no longer be referred to with her married name Dawson, but with her maiden name, Simms.
“The system was against us but we got there in the end,” her brother, Greg Simms said.
“We really didn’t believe this day would ever come. What we need now is to find Lyn, put her to rest.
“It’s our time to begin living our lives without this hanging over our heads. Chris Dawson has had 40 years of freedom, now it’s our turn.”
