Matt Kean missing in action on heat pump ‘cowboys’
An energy savings scheme that sees conventional electric water tanks swapped out for heat pumps is reportedly being “rorted to the extreme”.
The state government program incentivises businesses to install heat pump water heaters but has led to an increase in customer complaints over shoddy work and high-pressure sales tactics.
A report by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal laid out a shopping list of complaints, ranging from pumps not fit for purpose and incorrect installations.
“Where are you? Cooee! Matt Kean, Cooee! Paging Matt Kean to the foyer,” Ray Hadley said.
“I mean, it’s all well and good for Matt Kean to jump up and down and say, ‘We’ve got to go renewables, we’ve got to get heat pumps, we’ve got to get solar panels’.
“But what about the cowboys in the industry, Matt Kean? What are you doing about them?”
