Vietnam Veterans anthem turns 40-years-old this month
Singer/songwriter John Schumann joined Deborah Knight to talk about his famous song ‘I was only 19’ 40 years later.
The song was released in March of 1983 and became an anthem for Vietnam Veterans.
It is based on the experiences of veterans and in many ways has helped the broader public to understand what they went through.
John told Deborah that it’s the detail that gives the song its “meaning”.
John Schumann & The Vagabond Crew will perform “The Redgum Years” at the Factory Theatre in Sydney on the 1st of April. Find tickets HERE.
