Dale Finucane calls for consistency on hip drops

Suspended Cronulla Sharks Captain Dale Finucane has called for consistency when it comes to hip drop tackles in the NRL.

Finucane was banned for three games in Round five after he was charged with a hip drop tackle on Warriors fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad.

Hip drop tackles have been a controversial issue for the NRL to start the 2023 season and Finucane told The Continuous Call Team there needs to be consistency.

“I just question whether it is more prevalent or whether it’s always been in our game and it’s just something that hasn’t been penalised,” Finucane said.

“Obviously players know what a hip drop tackle looks like whether you can appeal for that or appeal for a penalty or a player to be sent for 10 minutes.

“I think the main thing is just seeing a bit of consistency around what is a hip drop tackle and what it looks like and how they are policed and sanctioned on the field.”

Finucane will return in Round 10 against The Dolphins.
